Star Sports is a group of Indian pay television sports channels owned by Star India, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company India. Star Sports was formerly known as ESPN Star Sports, a joint venture between ESPN Inc. and News Corporation, which was dissolved in 2012. Star Sports offers a wide range of sports coverage, including cricket, football, kabaddi, tennis, badminton, hockey, Formula One, and more.

Star Sports operates 12 channels in India, each catering to different languages and regions. The main channels are Star Sports 1 (English), Star Sports 2 (English), Star Sports 3 (Hindi), Star Sports 4 (Tamil), Star Sports 5 (Telugu), Star Sports 6 (Kannada), Star Sports 7 (Bengali), Star Sports 8 (Malayalam), Star Sports 9 (Marathi), Star Sports 10 (Gujarati), Star Sports 11 (Punjabi), and Star Sports 12 (Odia). Some of these channels also have HD versions for better picture quality.

Star Sports is the official broadcaster of many domestic and international sporting events in India. Some of the notable events that Star Sports has the rights to are:

ICC Cricket World Cup: Star Sports has the exclusive rights to broadcast all the matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup in India until 2023. The network also produces original content and analysis around the tournament, such as Follow The Blues, Cheeky Singles, and Down Memory Lane. Indian Premier League: Star Sports acquired the global media rights of the Indian Premier League, the most popular cricket league in the world, in 2018 for a whopping ₹16,347.5 crore ($2.55 billion) for five years. The network broadcasts all the matches of the IPL in multiple languages and platforms, including its digital streaming service Disney+ Hotstar.

Pro Kabaddi League: Star Sports is the founding partner and broadcaster of the Pro Kabaddi League, a professional kabaddi league that was launched in 2014. The network has helped popularize the sport in India and abroad, with its innovative presentation and commentary.

Indian Super League: Star Sports is also the founding partner and broadcaster of the Indian Super League, a professional football league that was launched in 2014. The network has invested heavily in promoting and developing football in India, with initiatives such as Let’s Football and Grassroots Program.
